Social Impact of IT on Individuals

Social Impact of IT on Individuals
It came to me, that the social impact IT has on individuals now-a-days is that everybody has a mobile phone, a laptop/computer or tablet, etc. So therefore, we communicate using these devices, whether it is to: text somebody, update a status on a social networking site, call somebody, etc. We are using our devices all throughout the day, meaning we don’t need to communicate in person anymore. Also, when we go places with friends, our mobiles are our number one priorities; we are always on them which in my opinion, mobiles etc. are dropping the chances of communication between people without using such devices.

It also came to me that a lot of children have now got iPods, iPads, phones etc, which is introducing them to devices at an early age, which in my age is becoming a problem because they are interacting less with hands on toys, and playing games on an iPad or tablet etc. Do you agree?

My missus wants to get our 3 year old son an Ipad. if we keep forcing technology on our younger generations, how long will it be before they are completely dependent on it?

  2. I'm sure all the popular Xmas gifts for kids were either a playstation, tablet, smartphone or some other electronic gadget, just because they feel they need to keep up with everybody else.

  3. Well the younger they are introduced to such devices, the quicker they will be more dependent on technology to get through a day.

  4. It came to me while i was reading your post that i disagree with the less interaction with hands on toys. What kids get nowadays is different from what I got when i was young and what i got is different from what my parents got e.t.c, so i think its more of a case of that's the age we live in, when i was young it was action man now its tablets and ipods.

  5. I agree that giving stuff like tablets to children can be a problem because they might start to focus on that instead of talking to others, which could effect them more in later life.

  7. I agree with you all, but at the same time children need to learn to play with toys and interact with other people, rather than spending time looking at an iPad screen, etc.
